Manga purchases

Just got back from lunch (er, well, carrying my lunch with me to eat at my desk), where I hit Barnes & Noble. Lukcily they had Death Note vol. 1 so I can finally see Obata's artwork in high resolution and not in a 150 ppi scan. What they didn't have was Steady Beat, but Borders' online thingy claims the store near work has it, so I expect lunch tomorrow will consist of going to Borders.

However, what B&N did have was a novelization of Fullmetal Alchemist. I went ahead and got it, on the theory that might as well signal there's a market for novelizations, but what I REALLY want before I get into it is for one of you who's seen the anime and read the manga and tell me if it's closer to the anime or the manga.

You rave about DN so much that when I saw a copy of it at the local comic shop there the other day when I was in to pick up my comics, I grabbed it. Am picking through it slowly and quite enjoying it so far!

Yay! I poked through it in the car before coming back into the building - if I brought it in, I'd find excuses to read it and not do work - and I can already tell that I'm going to like being able to closely examine linework without running into pixelization problems.

Not that many other people have that same issue. XD At any rate, yay!

Heh. I have the problem of needing to leave things in the car so they don't disrupt my work.

I also must admit that I was planning to pick up DN#1 based entirely on your love for the series. ;-)

However payday is not until tomorrow.

If it's the Land of Sand novelization, it's mostly manga canon but contains the "Fake Elrics", the Tringham brothers, who were original to the novel but were so popular they were put into the anime.

I think that's it - the book's out in the car so I can't doublecheck, but that sounds familiar.

Is that Land of Sand? I've spoiled myself for it over on the LJ comm and they say that it's mostly manga canon.
