OK I lied

I ended up compiling a list of contemporary YA books for a generator, because I was bored and procrastinating other things, so I ended up working on a generator.

However, as the lists I'm pulling them from really aren't curated that well, there are some non-contemporary works that snuck in. I have deleted a couple that popped out to me, and I'd ask that if you have a few minutes and want to help, you could go through the list and delete any that you know aren't contemporary YA.

I have the original list on my computer, so please delete right on the Google list--nothing is permanently lost. :)

(Note that one of the lists I pulled from purported to be contemporary rewrites of fairy tales and Jane Austen and stuff like that, so theoretically the ones with Austenlike titles are contemps, but I haven't checked.)

Should I delete contemporary YA if it's urban fantasy, i.e., should the list be realistic only?

Also, should I eliminate nonfiction?

I am now trying to decide between my current two favorite titles,

Dancing with a Dead Horse and Because I am Furniture.

...this is not remotely what I expected that book to be about:

Dancing with a Dead Horse
by Danielle DeVor (Goodreads Author)

Sometimes lullabies aren’t soothing; they’re deadly.

Sixteen-year-old Jason Miller wants three things: to become a professional Mixed Martial Arts fighter, graduate from high school, and avoid his mother’s ballet classes.

When he finds the body of the most popular girl in school, he has a major freak-out session, and then calls 911. But if finding a body wasn’t bad enough, when a horse doll made of human skin and hair is found in his locker, the entire town accuses Jason of the murder.

As the body count rises, so does the hostility. Jason is left with a choice: To run and hide or to clear his name and find out why the killer is targeting him before it’s too late.

Okay! I went through and deleted a bunch. But I'm copying this for posterity:

Veritas The Pharmacological Endgame
by Alessandro Boccaletti (Goodreads Author)

ZEUS is an international organization dedicated to the eradication of certain scientific advancements to keep its members part of the global elite. The group targets any researchers or whistleblowers that may topple its position at the top of the pharmaceutical industry. The members’ influence extends all the way to the top of the major world governments.

One man holds the key to stopping them.

Dr. Alex Bauman joined the Molecular Fat Studies Department at Queens University in Brisbane because he wanted to help the obese. Driven by unhappiness with his own weight, Bauman stumbles upon the knowledge to create a cure for obesity. This secret is dangerous to ZEUS. They don’t want anything to affect the trillions of dollars they make on bogus obesity treatments.

Presidential hopeful and California senator Marc Thwane is one of ZEUS’s members. He can’t let anything get in the way of his dark plans for the United States. When Thwane sends a black-ops team after Bauman, the two men’s destinies collide in this global adventure. Russian cosmonauts, Saudi royals, and more will help and hinder Bauman’s search for the key to taking down ZEUS once and for all.
