Uhhhhhh
Like Heidi, but... not like Heidi, no, not at all like Heidi
Anyway, just dropping by to suggest throwing in all the P G Wodehouse titles (I see Right Ho showing up, but the others not). I see Pellucidar showing up, but not other references to Burroughsiana (Synthetic Men of Mars, a shoo-in). Sword-and-planet stories are not explicitly steampunk, but I think they fit more comfortably here than with SF pulp; e.g., Radio stories, Swifties, etc. etc....
54 Jules Verne and the Celestial Killer
88 Her Infernal Gadget
95 1888: an Occult Anthology
70 Barmaid from San Francisco - Wandered in from 1950's pulp I think
103 The League of Wranglers
53 Crystal Isambard Kingdom Brunel in Kathmandu -- WHAT

(Could there be a typo: Volcania for Volcanic. Some of the Volcania titles seem right (A Magnetron of Volcania) and others seem like Volcanic is really meant (Volcania Aladdin).)

The Case of the Arctic Snow Globe: a Beau Brummel Legend
Anyway, I've put the ones above that weren't in there already in. I'd like to get some more non-European people and generic names in there as well: might as well fight creeping colonialism when possible.

... a story about an adventurist unsatisfied with their privileged, protected life who runs away to enjoy some romantic, exciting violence, dirt and squalor.

99 What Ho, Etiquette?
70 Victorian from Atlantis ...actually an SGA fanfic.
54 Jack and the Ancient Heir ...this one too.
39 Steam! ...it's the punkiest!
97 Altered! ...Fido will never forgive that duplicitous veterinarian.
40 Collars! ...Fido's master joins the vet as a subject of his ire.
97 Greatest! ... a narcissist's memoir.
92 The Proposal Wars ...This grantwriting season, Dr. Jones will stop at nothing to get his project funded.
92 The Revenge Wars ...a sequel.
87 His Majesty's Child ... slipped in from the romance generator? or is it Mpreg?
86 Her Majesty's Countess ...FF historical romance
29 Sweet Policewomen ...probably porn.
37 Hot Diver ... definitely porn.
23 North Pole in the Tropics ...I'm pretty sure that's not how it works.
07 a Deadly Teapot Uncovering ...oh NO, not the DEADLY TEAPOT!!
54 Jules Verne and the Magnetic Tobacconist ... a lesser-known Monty Python sketch.
91 In the Strait of Drinking ...I'll take 'euphemisms for alcoholism for alcoholism' for $300, Alex.
91 In the Hall of Running ..."I said no running in the hall, Albert!" "But Ma!"
28 The Long Adventures of Prince Albert ...hur hur hur.
What is it about this book that reminds me of detective fiction?

It is running very well now, IMO. Also the mice have stopped popping up.

Personages of rank; freestanding and not use them as modifiers (so, the Rani, not Rani Somename) if possible:
Rani
Rajah
Emir
Colonel - I think this is missing from the menu of possible ranks! "The Colonel" is an excellent generic character to add dubious military flair to anything.
Women travellers/adventurers:
Lady Grace Drummond
Lady Hester Stanhope
Lady Mary Wortley Montagu
Mary Kingsley
Gertrude Bell
Isabella Bird
Pulled from lists and indexes:
ibn Battutah (real traveler)
Hadji Baba (fictional traveler)
Khalil
Abdullah
Ahmed
Bashir
Omar
Haroun
Rashid
Selim
Salma
Zubaida
Ayesha
Fatima
Leila
Iman
Zaynab
Tahirih
Yasmin
Common Chinese surnames, generic:
Zhang or Chang
Li
Wang
Chen
Cho
Drawing names from a much wider cultural pool might be difficult to keep harmonious, rank-wise; e.g. you don't want it to generate Rani Gertrude Bell. I have no background in non-English adventure fiction, which is where these should be sourced…

I have three lists, name.txt and role,txt and role-pl.txt (plural). I've put:
the Rani
the Rajah
the Emir
into the name.txt file, which means they will be treated as if they were personal names and things like "Rani Gertrude Bell" shouldn't show up. Of course we might end up with "Captain the Rani" which may have it's own set of issues, but we'll see what happens and can put code in to fix those cases.
