So one of the tires on my car has a bit of debris in it that's caused it to go flat. And the last time the tires were put on, the shop used one of those machines and cranked the lug nuts on so tightly that we can't get them off manually. So we either have to get it towed or drive slowly on the tire to the closest place to get the tire taken off and patched. ARG.

Thanks! We just have to figure out what we're doing tomorrow--it's Toby's telecommute day, and I need to go in. So either he's stranded here and I take his car (and park even farther from my building, in his lot), or he drives me to work and I'm at the mercy of his hours. Hrm. I could just say that obviously Fate has meant me to take the day off and just take a vacation day, which is rather tempting.

Thanks. We've found a possible solution to the lug nuts--you position the jack under the wrench/thingy that you use to take off the lug nuts and jack it up--the extra pressure should help it turn. If that doesn't work, we're going to call USAA's roadside assistance and see if they'll come to the house and either take the tire off or tow the thing--the tire place is just too far for me to be comfortable with driving it, given the driving that I had to do on it already.

I saw you already solved this by calling for help.

I remember once changing a tire by myself (it happily was not too bad and I discovered it while parked in front of my home) and following instructions from Google and feeling pretty pleased with myself.

At least one lug nut was too hard for me to take off with armpower. But I am fat weigh enough that standing on the lug wrench did the trick.

They strongly recommended not standing on the lug wrench. I expect that's so when you fall off and hurt yourself you can't sue them.
