This is why Telophase is a dork...

... I suck tremendously at Katamari Damacy, of all things.

[livejournal.com profile] telophase is not a natural (or coordinated) video gamer.

Suck harder! It'll come to you!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
XP

seriously, I can't ever get the stupid katamari bigger than 50cm when doing the Make a Star 4. *is cranky*

[identity profile] the-z.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Heehee. It took my mother in law a bit to get used to the controls on KD and now she's a huge HUGE fan!

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I gave it 3 tries tonight and then realized it was making me seasick, so I quit. I may have to go to the bookstore shortly, just because staring at the comptuer is not helping the seasickness go away. :/

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Haha. You're like me, then -- i fail at any and all video games. Isn't katamari damacy fun anyway, though??

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
It's fun up to the point where I AM SICK AND TIRED OF THIS STUPID HOUSE AND THESE STUPID OBJECTS AND I DON'T WANT TO SEE THEM ANY MORE BUT I CAN'T GET BIGGGER THAN 50CM AND IT'S DRIVING ME INSANE.

Arg.

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
aww :( try again later/tomorrow/?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:26 am (UTC)(link)
* And I've got SSX Trixky, which is kinda fun too, except that I tend to complete the courses on my face. And I got Crazy Taxi, but I can't make it past the stupid practice sessions, so ... I SUCK.

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:03 am (UTC)(link)
Heh. If we ever end up meeting up, you and i should really have a who-is-worse-at-video-games contest. I've done it a few times with DDR. it's surprisingly fun.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:33 am (UTC)(link)
DDR? I do it on the easiest level of the workout mode and most of the time the little bar is flashing red before I'm halfway through. XD

well, ok, that's sometimes because my back starts hurting part of the way trhough and I can't do the jumps, but many times it's because I'm about as coordinated as an elephant on meth.

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:36 am (UTC)(link)
Oh god, elephants on meth... *dies laughing at the mental image*

But yeah. I haven't DDR'd in ages, and don't really feel the urge to, even though i have very easy access to a copy of the game (I love having a gamer brother. Really. :p)
I don't think i've ever tried the workout mode, but i can usually pass a song on light if i'm paying attention. It's been a while, though... Eh, whatever.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
I am an out-of-shape lump, and have a DDR pad and game in an attempt to occasionally get some exercise into my life. Hasn't worked too well this summer, mostly from the necessity of having to haul the fan into the living room if I don't want to die from heat exhasution, but I have hopes that I'll be able to stick to it better during the winter, once it gets colder.

Not that I've ever been in good shape to start with, I'm currently in the worst shape I've ever been, mostly thanks to a back injury two years ago that took a year and a half to clear up, and still sometimes hurts me if I bend funny or overstress it, so I couldn't even walk without pain for many months. WHich isn't conducinve to anything but sitting very, very still for long periods of time, so ... blah. Oh well.

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
Yeahhh... excess exercise during the summer is uncomfortable, to say the least. After spending a few weeks wandering around the negev (desert in the south of israel), I can fully sympathize with that one. Good luck keeping to it in the winter, it'll probably get easier at least on the temperature front.

I eat pretty well by teenager standards, and don't have too much excess fat, but i don't really have muscle mass either... Meh. I second the it-hurts-to-move-dammit, though the pain's not severe by any means for me, so it's really just, well, helping me be lazy. Woo.

Ick, back injury...ow. :( That's certainly a motivator against moving around. At least your occupation isn't one that relies on walking a lot, right?

(Also, I think I just hit the wall with this comment... don't trust anything that leaves the tired!meli brain in this state. Bleargh. In other words, if i accidentally said something really stupid in here... please ignore it. Wheee.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
We have thunderstorms tonight, and tomorrow's high...? Predicted to be 78. Whee! It's been in the upper 90s since forever.

Yah, I don't have to walk much. It's mostly sitting in a chair for a long time, then rushing to another place to sit in a chair for a long time, then rushing back. Once it cools down, I'll be walking around to lunch more, but for now, HOOOOOOOOOOOT.

I pulled a ligament in my lower back in August 2003, in England, from hauling a heavy suitcase up four flights of stairs. :D It's FINALLY much better because I ahve a job with health insurance, and we tried a couple of different courses of drugs - it only took a month of the correct drug suppressing the pain and inflammation for it to get much better - I think I was just constantly re-injuring myself. It's possible there's an element of a slipped disc in there - they took x-rays and there's less space between two of my lower vertebrae than there ought to be, but as long as it's not causing pain or doing anything to affect my daily life, there's no point in doing anything to it. :)

(You dind't say anything stupid.:D)

[identity profile] melster.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Ahh, I love thunderstorms. It cooled down a lot here today too, and it's WONDERFUL.

Oof :( I'm glad you finally found the right drug to help you. I haven't ever injured my back or anything, but one of my friends slipped a disc once... i asked him what it was like, and his answer was something along the lines of "well, i was walking down the hallway... and then i was writhing in pain on the floor. Don't remember the in-between too much."

(yes, but that's just because I was lucky. My brain-mouth filter is REALLY thin right now, and sometimes it works and sometimes it just...doesn't, really, so i find myself saying the most random things at times.)

Poor telophase.....I want to play that thar tippy game.
ext_99067: (Sarah *sigh*)

[identity profile] lady-noremon.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I meant to type Trippy........but I guess it's tippy for you, making j00 all seasick X3 >_< I suck at SSX, but I lol the music in Tricky...

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
first one? or we ♥ katamari. i started we ♥ katamari and i sucked so hardcore at it, even though i used to play KD too too much.

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:04 am (UTC)(link)
you can achieve!!!!!!!!!

i'm going to admit, my roomate - a total NONgamer beat me out in winning that game, even if...well...IT WAS MY MOM! and i was BRED on video games (this is way serious, my mom is an avid retroconsole collector/gamer)

it embarassed me. but its addicting fun

[identity profile] thomasyan.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I like FPS games like Marathon and Halo and Halo 2.

I, too, sucked at Katamari. It made me feel stoopid.

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
yeah, it makes you feel like you've just done something wrong. something so cute, so innocently evil cannot be making a mockery of your madgamingskillz.

and yet.

it is.

[identity profile] sophia-helix.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, I suck too. Want to super-suck? Try the cooperative mode!

(this doesn't stop me from owning 800 Xbox games; it just stops me from getting more than halfway through.)

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:30 am (UTC)(link)
Halfway? I dream of being able to get halfway... *whimper*

[identity profile] kittikattie.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, Katmari. Destroyer of my thumbs.

Someone gave me the tip to go for the big stuff as soon as you can, it adds more mass.

*has built one 2 km big in We <3 Katamari*

[identity profile] tokyoghoststory.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:05 am (UTC)(link)
1. ace icon.

2. i'm jealous, i was on one of the levels to make a 3km and i totally failed out. even though it was 10 minutes long. i was depressed :(

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I ♥ Kamatari Damacy. I don't own a gaming console, but whenever I'm at my cousin's place, I play it all the time! Same with DDR.

SSX Tricky & Crazy Taxi though? Wow, I'm terrible.

Fighting games like Soul Calibur are my forte. XD

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
My tendency to repetitive-stress injuries proscribes me playing button-mashers like Soul Calibur. Which I found out after puchasing a copy and attepmting to play - my wrist was AAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

[identity profile] magicnoire.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:58 am (UTC)(link)
I get too hyper playing button-mashers. Especially when I play them with my cousins. You should see us playing Smash Brothers Melee.

[identity profile] tammylee.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Mmmm Katamari...
I yell at the screen a lot when I play which baffles my boyfriend as he finds Katamari very calming.

^_^;;

*watches the opening credits and is mesmerized*

[identity profile] meliscornelis.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 04:21 pm (UTC)(link)
Haha, the opening credits are insane.

The music is generally insane too, but oh so catchy.

[identity profile] meliscornelis.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 04:53 am (UTC)(link)
hehe, don't worry about it. When I first got Katamary Damacy getting the hang of it was a bitch. When I got to levels where try after try I failed, I just popped in another game or did something else, and then tried again later. When you get frustrated at a level the game isn't fun anymore. Some of the later levels will kick you ass for a lot of tries...I guarantee it...unfortunately.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 12:41 pm (UTC)(link)
But when I get kicked in the ass so easily on the early levels ... *sigh*

This is why the only video game I was ever any competition at was Tetris.

[identity profile] meliscornelis.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 04:18 pm (UTC)(link)
You have stupid thumbs, I say!

Baka baka baka bakaaa~!!

Ok, not really, I just felt like saying baka. Anyways, the only advice I can think of is use 'click both analog sticks' to change direction instead of trying to back up. Going backwards is really slow. Than and when you're small, generally avoid moving objects, they kick your ass and make your katamari smaller.

I can't think of any other advice. ^_^
