Downy Woodpecker!



Toby actually saw it live--it was clinging to the side of the window frame, and he thought it was a blue jay. But when the pic came through, this is what it caught.

Neat! I have trouble figuring out if they're downy or hairy woodpeckers- they look nearly identical to me.

Going by allaboutbirds.org, the biggest difference is the size, and I know from seeing lots of finches on the windowsill that the one above is only a bit larger than a finch.

(I got the ID using the Merlin bird ID app by allaboutbirds.org, and then went and looked it up. XD)
