Books

Updating YET AGAIN, entirely to entertain [livejournal.com profile] eegatland and totally not a reason to use my new icon.

Yesterday I went to the library, list in hand, and of course ended up with a lot of things that had nothing to do with the list. XD The haul I got from the library is:

Nancy Farmer The Sea Trolls - I've seen this at the bookstore and debated getting it, but never have.

Tamora Pierce, Trickster's Queen. I read the first book and didn't hate it as much as everyone else seemed to, but I didn't like it enough to buy the sequel, so I checke dit out.

Scott Westerfeld Midnighters: The Secret Hour. Recommended by [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, IIRC.

Holly Black, Tithe. They didn't ahve the Blacks recommended at this branch, so I picke dup this one.

M.T. Anderson, The Game of Sunken Places. Blurb sounded vaguely interested. It's probably people-sucked-into-fantasy-world, but oh well.

Isabel Allende Zorro. Another one I've debated getting, but decided I probably wouldn't like it enough to justify the outlay.

And some book about cats and cat behavior that's on the other side of the room right now, since I took it to work to read at lunch.

Gah, Most Haunted is on the Travel Channel right now, and it's pretty tedious - a bunch of poeple with infrared cameras wandering around various castles and inns and such in the dark spooking at every little thing and freaking each other out.

I'm one of the "everyone" who hated Trickster's Choice. You'll have to say whether this one is any better. I've been meaning to check out Sea Trolls too.

*waits expectantly*

I'm not sure if I remember enough of TC to be able to say with any accuracy if it's better or not. XD

This (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sub_divided/26541.html#cutid1) is why I didn't like Trickster's Choice. As long as Pierce lays off the being-bailed-out-by-a-god-ness, the prophetic-girl-power-ness, and the like-me-for-who-my-daddy-is-ness, Tricker's Queen will be better.

Holly Black, Tithe

I actually read this book as part of my reading list for YA Fiction in preparation for School Tours and enjoyed it so much that I went out and bought a copy of it immediately.

I don't know if you'll be able to find it where you are (and I'm mighty tempted to just send you a copy), but another really good one in the fairy tale vein is An Earthly Knight by Judith McNaughton, which is an amazingly good retelling of Tam Lin.

I actually have it. :) I enjoyed it, but didn't love it.

Very cool. I wasn't sure if she'd travelled far. She's actually from Newfoundland. ;)
