Our study room reservation system has a space that you put a name or other identifying description in. This shows up on the reservations page and on the RoomWizard doohickey at the door, so you know who's in that room. We've got language warning people not to put in offensive or obscene descriptions, and for the most part they're usually pretty tame, with a few creative ones here and there.

Finals, however, is bringing out the silly as over 50% of them are no longer just "econ 305" or whatnot. Here is a list of room descriptions I culled from today's reservations.

Aw, man, I wish they'd let us put our own names in when we reserved study rooms! We would've ROCKED at it.

I don't even think we HAD study rooms when I was in undergrad! I have no idea if either of my grad schools did, either, but I never did group study anyway, so the question is kinda academic. XD

A few months after we instituted this online reservation system someone found a way to hack it. You can't reserve more than 24 hours in advance, and whoever it was wrote a script that would hit the site each hour and book rooms as they came open. Presumably they were then selling the room reservations. We found out about it, marveled at the ingenuity, and then closed that hole in the system.

Oh, lord, I bet they made a killing. Room space was always at a premium for us -- there were many nights during finals when six of us would be huddled around in a corridor because we didn't have any more time in our room reservation, waiting to pounce on anything new that we found available.

I'm interested to see what the new building's going to look like over this coming week, since it'll be our first finals season in it. We used to have students littering the place because we didn't have enough seating, and the building manager has a photo showing them sitting on the floor blocking a fire exit (which I think was used to convince the Powers That Be of the necessity for expanding the building).

6 or 7 years ago we had a group of Biology students dissect a fetal pig in one of the study rooms! We didn't know until the housekeepers found the remains in the trash and freaked out!
