I spent Sunday morning hacking at the hedges in the backyard with an electric trimmer, as they'd pretty much been untouched since we bought the house and were threatening to take over the neighborhood. They're not especially attractive now, but at least we can see out the back windows.

And now I'm very stiff and in pain. :)

I know your pain. I've been campaigning to get the bushes on the side of the house replaced for eons.

We actually got a postcard from the HOA about bushes growing wild some time back (not the back yard--they have no control over the appearance of anything you can't see from the street), and we had no idea what they were talking about. So we hacked at the biggest bushes to reduce their size and there's been no further postcard. :/
