CHIBI NINJA
Toby got a nifty new thing to control our sprinkler system that talks to the intarwebs so it gets weather data (and can be adjusted to not water if there's more than an 80% chance of rain, for example), and also can be controlled from an app, so when we wake up and hear that it's raining and that the sprinkler system is on, we can turn it off without getting out of bed.
(Who am I kidding? It doesn't matter what we can or can't do with it, what matters is that it talks to the internet and you can control it with your phone.)
At any rate, Toby's installing it now, and so our old controller is going to go bye-bye, so I finally took a photo of it to post, because I won't be able to do so anymore.
I present to you...the CHIBI NINJA.

In conclusion, CHIBI NINJA.
Toby has also come in here and explained, with profanity, that he has learned the reason our rain sensor didn't work was that it had never been switched on.

I'm reminded of the number of times in our HS computer lab that I debugged people's "Why isn't it printing???" problems as an issue of the printer not being physically connected to the computer/network in question (and then having to delete all the queued stuff before it printed).

When I went out to ask him the brand, he basically said:
--all of them seem to be $250 as a base price (for 6 zones--you can get bigger ones, but they cost more (duh))
--HydraWise requires a wifi internet connection, and you have to make a free account with them, but you can control it from the panel itself or from your device. (a paid account will allow you to write apps to talk to it)
--the Rachio IRO does not have the ability to control it from the panel, only from your device, and also requires an internet connection.
--the third one he considered, the RainMachine, does not require an internet connection, but obviously won't get any weather info if you don't set it up. Does not require you to set up an account with them, but if you want to control it from a device you have to open up a port on your internet and he's paranoid enough not to want to do that.
