One excellent thing about Painter is that it easily saves iterative versions, so if I remember to hit the right key combo when saving, I get filenames like "Painting-2.14". Alas, Photoshop doesn't do that (at least, not that I've found out).
Editors and web content people have 'em too. I told one of the writers in the internal communications group not to send us drafts because we've learned the hard way not to bother putting them into the system and formatting them. He keeps doing it anyway ... .
