art

Moar art, but it looks tres crappy because the scanner is a piece of *(^(^(*$@@# that didn't pick up ANY of the subtle shading.

Note to self: if you want to do subtle shading, USE DARK PAPER.

If it doesn't sell at ConDFW, I might see if I can take it a service bureau that will photograph it or use a drum scanner to get a better scan. If it sells at ConDFW, then I GUESS YOU'LL NEVER SEE HOW GOOD IT IS IN REAL LIFE.

AND HEY SHE NEEDS A TITLE.

Pencil on charcoal paper.

I neeeeed some sort of title, preferably allusive rather than HEY! HARPY! (Or siren, if you prefer.) Mostly because the feet should be a surprise. :D (it was the only way I could get myself to draw something with wings on!)

Stupid question, would a photograph pick up the subtle shading better?

She sure looks nice, though. :)

How about "NO WINGFIC FOR YOU"

Just kidding--*flees*

"Watching the Feast"?

The Thinker? The pose is reminiscent.

I really like her hair.

Thank you! I got a book that's ostensibly about how to draw fairies and such, but which is instead a decent book of tips on drawing with pencil. XD I got the hair technique from there. The feather technique, too, but it wasn't quite as successful, IMO.

[Insert Greek name]'s Watch? I only suggest that because of the mythological roots, hairstyle, and to me it looks like she was previously bored out of her mind and is really glad we (the viewer) have turned up.

XD Thanks!

Hmmmm...I found a page that has names of the Harpies... http://www.theoi.com/Pontios/Harpyiai.html

Somehow I thought there would be more of them named. A pity Podarge looks so awful written in English because I like the word play on "flashing-footed" with her talons and everything. Still [name]'s Watch is perhaps not the most original of titles. I hope some more able thinkers stop by for your sake. XD

And Aellopus makes me go "Yellowpus," which isn't much better!

Maybe I could just title it "Aello" or "Aella" and let people who know their Classics get it and the rest wonder...

[identity profile] wyrdness.livejournal.com 2015-02-10 09:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Aello makes me think of Mello. I guess it depends on the person as to whether that's a good or a bad connection. :D

Aella (or Aello) would work as a title I think. Most people would assume it's her name whether they knew it was the name of a harpy or not. To anyone who did know, or looked it up, it'd be a little extra "I know that you know" thing that people could feel smug over knowing. Not that I have ever felt smug over being able to casually pull out a random bit of obscure trivia as if everyone should have known that. XD

Over on DW someone suggested "Watching the Feast," which might work. :D

[identity profile] wyrdness.livejournal.com 2015-02-11 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, that's way better than anything I was coming up with (all perch or aerie related). Phew, off the hook, time to relax again! :D

XD

Oh, that's great! I love the expression on her face.

Unfortunately I am terrible with titles, so I have no suggestions to offer.

Thank you!
