Crossword clue help

Got another word that needs a clue! "Assagai," an alternate spelling of "assegai," an African polearm. It's often associated with the Zulu, but was used all over Africa according to Wikipedia, so that totally must be correct.

Anyway, I need a crossword clue for that, hopefully relating to science fiction, fantasy, alternate history, etc. Toby's thinking along the lines of District 9, since it was a South African movie, but we can't come up with anything that really works.

Using alternate spellings is just mean. I know how to spell assegai, and I would be very unhappy with your crossword!

Alas, it's one of the two things I'd like to change that I spotted *after* I finalized the grid in Crossword Compiler, and changing it would mess with the Author Guest of Honor clue that has to be in there! :)
