Monterey and San Francisco in October...

Anyone here familiar enough with Monterey, CA to tell me what hotels in a reasonable price range (i.e. less than $75/night) are somewhere near the Monterey Conference Center? I will indeed have a car, so "somewhere near" can translate to a 15-20 minute drive during morning and evening rush hour type traffic.

Turns out if I'm flying into San Francisco and renting a car to drive to Monterey, it costs less overall because I can stay and a decently-priced hotel instead of paying the $179! per night conference hotel price, so that's what I'm doing. Got the plane tickets and the car reservation and everything!

And of the people who are either living near San Francisco, or are attending Yaoicon and getting into town on Wednesday or Thursday (October 27) - if there are any since I really have no clue who-all reads this and lives near or plans to attend it - will anyone be available to go hang out and do lunch/touristy things all Thursday? Because my hotel room for the con is already arranged and it's available to me for Wednesday night if I want it, so I'm debating driving up to SF Wednesday evening after the Monterey convention is over and spending all day Thursday doing SF, since I haven't been there since I was nine, and it would be nice to have company. :D (I have to turn the car in before 2PM Thursday, so it won't be available, but considering the public transport in SF is significantly better than anywhere in Texas ... not a prob. XD)

Stuff to do in SF

Exploratorium very recommended, plus if you're crawl!ok and non-claustrophobic, call ahead and make a reservation for their tactile dome. I found it fascinating.

The Exploratorium sounds like a must-see. :D *pokes around Google for the tactile dome* Hm... sounds intriguing yet scary. XD I think I might be able to do it if I had people with me to bolster my courage, heh (mildly clasutrophobic).

(Man, I wish LJ's servers would sync correctly - it's been, what, a week now that random comments are taking forever to show up?)

Gonna be in town Thursday? Or, heck, early Friday - now that I'm not stuck at a table, I can duck in and out of the con as I wish. My flight home leaves roughly noonish (11:30, perhaps?) on Sunday, but Wednesday night trhough Saturday night I can do whatever. I should probably do the social thing for at least one evening with the people whose hotel room I'm sharing, especially since she seems rather excited to meet me in person, for whatever reason. :) (but not in that crazy-stalker way, luckily)

Ghiradelli chocolate factory, omg. It's so cool. And there's so much chocolate and other nummies. And when I went there, there were musicians playing in the sqaure, so we sat and ate chocolate and listened to them. Highly recommended.

Yes, definitely go there. I went when I was there a few years ago for ALA and so wished I could have lived there -- I mean, right there in the chocolate store.

Wish I were going there too, although then I know you'd try to bribe me into being your booth babe...

The booths sold out, so I'd have to try to bribe you into being someone else's booth babe. XD

P.S. - Just got the Honey Moon I won off eBay. XD
