Japan: Still largely a cash economy

Japan Post clerk’s reply when I tried to use my credit card to pay to send our souvenirs home:

“No. Money.” (said with a smile)

I apologized, walked 20′ to the ATM, got some cash, and paid the man.

Every time I see a JCB Card logo at a shop small enough for there to be continuity - and it's a pretty common logo here, not quite Visa and Mastercard but pretty common - I try to remember to ask whether they have ever seen any customer offer it ever.

I have not yet received a "yes." I have, however, explained what it is on several occasions, so if it ever does happen, they'll know what to do. XD
