Sekai Cafe

Crossposted from Glamorous in Retrospect. Author: Stephanie.

We’re currently sitting at a cafe in Asakusa, Tokyo that serves vegan and halal foods. We’re just having coffee (Toby) and orange juice (me), but it’s interesting. They serve meat, but you can get vegan stuff if you wanted.

He didn't think he needed anything until we sat down with orange juice and exhaustion hit him like a sack of bricks, so he got the latte. :)

What have you eaten so far?

The day we arrived, I got an onigiri from the Lawson's downstairs and Toby didn't get anything. Yesterday we ate granola bars that I'd brought for breakfast and a pastry we'd gotten on he plane--basically a croissant with chocolate chips. Lunch was the soba noodles in a previous post, and dinner was at a Chinese restaurant in the Daimaru department store. I got a dish with fried noodles, beef shreds, bell peppers, and a thick sauce of some sort. I forget what Toby got, and at the moment he's listenng to an audiobook to distract himself from a touch of motion sickness on the Shinkansen at the moment, so I don't want to disturb him to ask.

For lunch today we ended up at a tonkatsu joint in Tokyo Station. I got the special of the day, which was tonkatsu with a thick red miso sauce on it, with a soft boiled egg, served over rice. Toby got some sort of tempura prawn-looking thing with shredded cabbage over which he poured a yuzu sauce. Both were accompanied by red miso soup with teeny tiny clams in it.

We've got ekiben for the train but haven't cracked them open yet.
