Utterly exhausted. Full day of work not fun, would have gone home early but thought might get form written that subjects need to sign for web usability study. Failed. Should have gone home instead.

Have acquired latest Pratchett book, though, so day not a total loss. [livejournal.com profile] rachelmanija, won't finish picture tonight, but will try to at least get final pencils done - woke up at 3AM and never really went back to sleep last night, so full night of sleep tonight is a must.

Lack of pronouns rather to be expected, frankly. What would proper name for such afflisction be? Apronounia?

Latest Pratchett book? Title, subject matter, adult or children's market?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Thud!, adult market. Soon to be followed, apparently, by a picture book entitled Where's My Cow? as, it seems, it's going to be a running gag that Sam Vimes needs to get home to read Where's My Cow? to his son. (er, that's in the blurb, no spoilers, and I haven't read that far anyway.) Dunno when WMC? is going to be out, but they're advertising it on the back of Thud!

* Being, as is probably apparent from the mention of Vimes, a Night Watch book set in Ankh-Morpork.

Okay, so I'm going to want it.

Hardback? Paperback? I'm betting hardback. well, maybe the library has it.

[identity profile] celticdragonfly.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Bother, they don't. I have just requested it. I do love the easy request form for the Fort Worth library.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-13 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Yup, hardback. If you do audiobooks, Audible.com is currently running a special for $10.95 on it, but I don't know what-all things you have to sign up for, if anything. I'm currently buying audiobooks from there on my mom's account, but I have purchased from them before without having to sign up for anything, so it might be worth a look if you like audiobooks.

I really liked Briggs' narration of _Going Postal_, though I don't know how I'd find his Vimes voice; I didn't like Nigel Planer's Vimes voice and so have never finished listening to _Jingo_, which I got as an experiment.

Audible does have pretty lengthy sample clips, but I want to read the book first before listening.

The sale says "Active AudibleListener members only," but it's very easy to sign up and then cancel--actually the first time you try to cancel they'll usually give you a free month--so if you wanted to stock up all at once and not over several months, it might be worth it.

I'm doing some serious stocking up on Pratchett audiobooks - Mom got this special program where you pay $120ish and get 10 books for that, and between us, we're almost through our second $120. But we both do a lot of audiobooks. :D They're perfect for doing art with, because I *need* some sort of entertainment going on when I do that.

And oh yeah - Three Men in a Boat just got put on the Audible.com site - I need to go download it. (I really want Twain's The Innocents Abroad in audiobook format from there, and I've requested it, since the only audio edition I can find otherwise is selling for something like $150.)

I have torrented copies of the Johnny Maxwell trilogy, which I haven't listened to yet, if you'd like them.

Audible is great, and so is my library with CD audiobooks. =>

"latest pratchett book"? uh-oh.... I think I may have fall off the turnip truck again.....

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-14 04:31 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just out, this past weekend, I think. I wasn't aware of it until someone mentioned it online Sunday, and I was too dead on Monday to leave the apartment and get it, which is how I knew I was really sick. :D

[identity profile] fourthage.livejournal.com 2005-09-14 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
See, I knew there was a reason I had you friended. You remind me of important things like Pratchett's latest book. I'm halfway through and loving it.

Well, my ISP has blocked P2P filesharing. :( But thanks ofr the offer anyway. :D

Nah, I meant that I've downloaded them already and could upload them to my webhost for you to download straight. The "torrented" bit was just to indicate the source & therefore possible quality issues.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-15 01:01 pm (UTC)(link)
AH, ok, in that case, sure. XD Thanks!

Ack, realized halfway through the first that they're in bookmarkable AAC format, and that I don't have the original MP3s. Is that okay or should I see about reconverting them into MP3?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-15 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Poking about online reveals the info that iPods are A-OK with that, so no problem. :)

Yeah, that's how you used to get bookmarkable audiobooks in iPods before iTunes 5, basically.

This is going pretty slowly, so it may be until tomorrow that they're all up, just FYI.

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-16 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
No prob, thanks!
