What's this?!



Yes, that's right, it's a nannycam to spy on our cats and find out the identity of the Mystery Shitter. Someone is leaving evidence of their displeasure on the floor in front of the litterbox and we haven't been able to figure out who. So we bought a cheapish cam and set it up in the laundry room in front of litter box #1 in the hopes that we'll catch the culprit in the act. It's aimed towards the door so we can see if the other cat is trying to block them in there, or if there's any fighting going on inside.

Oh, you want to know what that thing is? It's a desktop RC tank that I sent in to test the motion detection. :)

We have a Mystery Shitter too, so this is pertinent to our interests.

Foscam FI8910W Pan & Tilt IP/Network Camera with Two-Way Audio and Night Vision (Black). $62, and it's got night vision, motion sensors, and will email photos to you. It'll record sound and video--we haven't bothered with that. Works on wireless. You can also set up a feed so you can upload pics and video to Dropbox or pay them for their cloud storage, but that involves opening up a port to the intartubes and Toby is too security-conscious to do that, so we just set up a separate email address on one of our domains and had it send the pics there.

Once we figure out what's going on, I figure we can set it up in one place to watch the cats while we're going places, or set it up by the bird feeders, or whatever.

Heh, if we could also set the camera to trigger The Squirt Bottle of Loving Correction and target furry miscreants who are tempting fate and being turned into furry bedroom slippers, it would be priceless.

You can watch it from another room and send audio to it! Of course, if they're anything like my cats, noises don't do much to,deter them. :)

That requires opening ports up to the wide intartubes and Toby's too security-conscious to do that. So we settled for emailing photos to an address we set up ion one of our domains.

(how to tell you've become a homeowner: my first reaction to your photo was "ooooo look at that front loader!!"... yes, washer envy. ^_^; )

XD The washer and dryer were Toby's, and they were better than mine, so when we moved in together we sold mine and kept his. We've got them stacked now, so that we can tuck the letterboxes (well, one of them) next to them.
