WIP 2

This is as far as I've gotten on that second hot Asian guy.

His skin is rather plastic and featureless, but I may try a technique that MayYeo on DeviantArt does - she zooms in and makes lots and lots of little tiny hatch marks on the skin, which gives it a subtle texture.

I think, maybe, part of what's making it look like plastic is that it appears like the hair is just set onto his head, instead of growing out....A little shadow under the hairline should help that. Though I do love the texture of the hair at the moment....what brush(es) did you use?

I concurred. Also the eyebrows look more like he painted them....but in general your work is impressive in my eyes. I like the effects of the sweather.

I see you have ACDSee...that's my favorite program for Manga reading.

:) Yeah, I'm still working on the hair and eyebrows.

ACDSee is the best for gettign into zip files - I use it for reading manga and for paging through large folders of pictures I downloaded for reference. :)

Yeah, I need to work on the hairline and the eyebrows. His hairline's a little too rounded, too, and I need to roughen that up. I'm using the Cover Pencil in Painter IX for the hair, for the most part, in various widths.

I think what also might help it seem more 'alive' is using more reddish hues rather than shades of the base skintones. That way you'll get a more vibrant appearance and less ashen.

Otherwise, it's looking great so far!

(also, be sure to note the irregularities in his right eyebrow. That'll make him seem less plastic ;)

There's more pink patches in his skin than are showing up on the low-res version (nose and cheeks especially), but that's probably a sign I need to strengthen them. I think I'm also going to utilize Don Seegmiller's color-zone thing - forehead has golden tones, mid-face has red tones, lower face has blue tones - and see if that makes him pop.

I don't think they're paying anything, but if you can squeeze in 5-8 Saiyuki or Bleach illustrations before October 11 and want the exposure, the Yaoi-Con anthology is in need of illustrations - there's info linked from [livejournal.com profile] tammylee's journal (provided I remembered her username correctly).

Thanks! I'm following up on that now.
