The perils of Photoshop!

When you take the Dodge tool a bit too far!

I can understand needing to lighten faces up when the models are backlit, but the solution is to use the dodge tool with a LIGHT hand! (The best solution is to have an assistant holding a big white piece or fabric or cardboard to bounce light back into their faces when you take the picture, but sometimes you just don't have the option.)

I spent a lot of time looking for a white umbrella at one point, figuring it could do dual duty on photo trips!

Yup! I learned to do it with a big sheet of poster board, but it might be easier to direct the light bounced from the interior of an umbrella than it is to bend and move the poster board around to aim it at a specific spot.

With a little more Photoshop on that image, you could either make that a real glow coming from the nuclear-powered sand, or possibly an emanation from an actual magical glittery hoo-ha.
