Con sketch dump post

People kept complaining that I didn't have any Hakkai pictures. So I drew one, and nobody bought it. OK, it's the not the best job one could do of a Hakkai, but he's the hardest of them all to draw, I find. Goku's easiest, then Gojyo, Sanzo, and finally Hakkai.

This is the loose base sketch for one of two ink pieces comissioned by a friend. It's of an Earthdawn (RPG) character of his. She's a shapeshifter, so he didn't care about the details of her appearance. She's a Swordmaster, and the picture needed to feature a cloak. He suggested Renaissance-era clothing, and that her personality was that she was emotionaless in appearance, but really had drawn her sword one time too many.

I taped a piece of trasnlucent marker paper over it and inked on that in a loose, scratchy style. I don't have a scan of that, since my friend took it with him.

And here's the same character again, only in modern club gear. He requested an enormous bow somewhere - it's the cloak in a new form.

This is a commission for someone else I know, who was cash-poor but who will be paying me later, after which I'll send him the picture. It's two characters of his, Marionette and Thistle.

And finally - I started this because I wanted a bigger picture to use with marker on my big marker paper, and never got finished because I kept getting interrupted. I don't have a plan for it - it's evolving as I doodle. Goku was originally supposed to be Hakkai, but Goku just showed up suddenly. I'm not sure what else is going on - I think Goku may be holding a kitten or puppy. I was originally thinking this was set in the time right after Sanzo released Goku, when he was young, but his head is too big for that and I don't want to erase and re-draw it, so he's got to be older. Will eventually figure it out.

And in other news, I managed to knock the pepper shaker here at my computer onto the rug, so there's a definite eau de pepper perfuming the area and I sneeze randomly. Not badly - it wasn't very full to start with - but enough.

Lovely sketches! The shapeshifter in the more modern gear is probably my favourite of the sketches, though I can't really place why (≧∇≦)

And Hakkai is hard to draw! I can't draw him, no matter how hard I try T_T

The modern-gear shapeshifter is more dynamic than anything else - it's full of movement while the others are static, so that may be why. I ripped off the pose from a magazine ad. XD I think I like the Sanzo/Goku one the best, though, because there's something in their expressions that appeals to me (and that I will probably kill later on when I go to model them more closely).

Hakkai is just AGH to draw. I *hate* drawing his hair. And his face shape never wants to come out right. Sanzo's easier because his head is shaped like a lightbulb, but I ahvne't figured out the right angles and proportions for Hakkai yet.

These are all phenomenal. I actually think that's a very good early-Minekura Hakkai.

Marionette is probably my favorite. Her eyes are very striking.

And I really, really need to upload a few of my manga icons to this LJ. *G*

I love the Sanzo's sketch. You hit his expression dead-on. The eyes, the slight lift to the mouth, as if he's about to sneer. Love it.

XD Yeah, there's something to his face that I really like that I now I'll lose when I ink it and put markers on it. Luckily I don't ink on the same paper as I pencil, so I can develop the pencil piece and have it as a separate version.

My just-woke-up reaction is, that's a fair bit of expression for Hakkai. It makes me nervous.

FWIW.

I like the sketches of the RPG character the most :P

Why do you have pepper near your computer anyway?

atleast you didn't spill it on the keyboard ^^;

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 07:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Because I don't own a dining-room table (which confused the hell out of the poor guy on the phone when I set up renter's insurance - my dining area is set up as a library) and I eat in front of the computer most of the time. So there's a salt and pepper shaker here.

I've got salt and peper grinders in the kitchen, when I want to get oofy and use my smoked salt and pink peppercorns. :D

how do you smoke salt? o_O

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-09-06 07:33 pm (UTC)(link)
It's a Viking thing, apparently. Here's the page (http://www.salttraders.com/Detail.bok?no=1) that mentions how it's made. The stuff is good - salty, with that smoky flavor - and you don't use as much because there's so much flavor. I've put some in various meat dishes as I'm making it, to add a hint of smoky flavor, and it's really good on bland stuf flike baked potatoes and french fries.
