FEMAcon

These are from the A Fan's View site.

1) This page and the next one are about the FEMA crews and the refugees at the hotel and Reunion Arena.

2) THere were an approximate metric buttload of Inu-Yasha cosplayers there, but that meant you got to see some less-seen characters, like the two whose names I'll never remember in the first pic.

3) Everyone meet [livejournal.com profile] bitpig, who came to my rescue and stuffed me into his room along with his wife [livejournal.com profile] mundeemo, his foreign exchange student Yuki, and his friend Ken on Friday night. First pic.

4) It's very odd to be at a convention small enough that I remember seeing 99% of the costumes on A Fan's View, including the first one here, who I remembered because she had trouble handling the prints with her gloves on and her mother offered to hold them for her. The second, third, and fourth pictures are part of the cosplay group that had one three years in a row but not this time. If anyone can ID the series for me, that would be nice.

5) The last picture. XD (He's a Gumby from Monty Python).

6) Many of the Naruto cosplayers. The shocked Sakura in the second picture is my favorite, for her expression. XD I also loved the Itachi in pictue 3, because she's actually cosplaying Itachi from Duneboo's Operation: Revival Uchiha cartoons. XD

I do not know why the Chobits-type girl in the next-to-last picture is posing with a faux armadillo, other than it's Texas.

7) Someone I know actuallyt alked to the kid in the second and third pictures, and reports that he chose the costume himself - it's the lead character from Case Closed. The Lirin (from Saiyuki) in picture 4 came by my table.

8) Tetsaiga, actual size (pic 3). I was behind this guy in the line for the elevator one night, and the people in the elevator wouldn't let him get on with that huge, honking sword. XD The last pic on the page is [livejournal.com profile] yankeerose69, who I roomed with for part of the con.

9) I dub this the Year of the COlored Contacts (pic 2). Everyone seemed to have special contacts, ranging from Sharingan ones for Kakashi, Sasuke, and Itachi cosplayers to blue ones for Naruto and these for Inu-Yasha.

10) Here's a Sanzo (pic 2). and a Hakkai (pic 5). There were at elast 2 of each wandering around, and a couple of Gokus. Don't remember if I saw a Gojyo or not.

11) She is a braver girl than I will ever be (pic 5).

12) The Malice Mizer group at the cosplay starts here and continues on for the next three pages.

13) The three-years-winning group starts here and goes for the next several pages. Note all the acting and emoting? We couldn't hear a bit of it because they didn't use microphones or a pre-recorded soundtrack.

The Naruto's eyes on the Gumby page are freeeaky. The uniforms from the cosplay group look just like the ones in Fruits Basket. The other two girls look like Kagura and Kisa, and I guess the guy is Kyo?

Arg, not Kagura, Rin.

And it goes to show you that I saw them walking around and on the stage and couldn't figure out who they were. Maybe if the Kyo had, say, ORANGE HAIR or something, it would have been easier. Their skit was a small play and then a song with a dance, which made no sense whatsoever if you couldn't hear a single word. On the other hand, the Malice Mizer group needed no words to let you know exactly what was going on, adn they managed to get drama, love, and anger out of it.

It definitely took me a couple of minutes to figure it out. I was about to hit the back button when my brain finally threw the brick of recall.

So did anyone offer any entertainment to the refugees?

I doubt it, because the public was being kept away.
