I am not sure it will work outside Japan, where everyone is Pavlovian about moving over at the sound of the ding-bell! Maybe parts of Europe---Copenhagen, Amsterdam....

Note how many people look over their shoulders before moving. Are you sure he's not on a bicycle?

Note the escalator. :) Also, the movement of the camera looks far more walking-like than bike-like to me.

I suspect the ones who looked over their shoulder saw a man with a camera up to his face holding his arm straight out with a bell in it and just got the hell out of his way.

This is GENIUS - just look! It even works once they've turned around and seen you don't even have a bike. I'm so sad I haven't thought of this before

It is MAGIC! wow.

Alas it does not work in Toronto, where a bell dinging on a sidewalk is cause for death glares at best because bikes belong on the road, not in the pedestrian space.
