Fiction becoming...

Years ago, when we were in grad school, a friend and I came up with the idea of creating an academic journal. It would be titled TenureJournal: The Cross-Disciplinary Report, and it would be dedicated to publishing whatever papers came its way, from whatever disciplines, and of whatever quality, so that their authors could stack up publications on their CVs and applications for tenure, with a nominal peer review whose committee made up of other academics trying to pad their CV and make it look like they were active in the field.

Apparently this isn't as much of a joke as we thought.

Wow, but that's depressing.

Yeah, where I work we weight journals and just strike through/ignore anything with an impact score below the threshold the bosses determine (*). I'm supposed to ask candidates for four significant publications from the past five years to supplement any CV they submit.

(*)I'm vague and headscratchy on the number as i sit here because it's changed again with our "regime change" at the Foundry and I'm not sure where pub review stands.. blah, something to bring up on Friday.
