BPAL review: Hellfire

Hellfire

BPAL description: This comes from the Sin & Salvation collection. A scent celebrating Sir Francis Dashwood's Order of the Knights of St. Francis of Wycombe, also known as the Hellfire Club. A swirl of pipe tobacco, hot leather, ambergris, dark musk and the lingering incense smoke from their Black Mass.

In vial: There's a smell right at first that I really like, then it's overpowered by the musk. I shall test it in a very small spot, remembering what happened with Spellbound.

Wet: Wow. I'm actually getting a sort of minty thing from this. It smells like Girl Scout Thin Mints and nothing at all like what it was in the imp.

Dry: The musk starts to come out and make my head hurt and smell icky on me, so I'm rushing to wash it off ASAP before it stays forever.

Notes: No cat report on this - I tested it on one elbow instead of my wrist, and she's curled up in the carboard box lid she's taken possession of and there's no way to get my elbow down there easily. :) Anyway -- interesting but OH GOD MUSK GET IT OFF ME NOW, and soap-and-water plus an alcohol rub have not gotten the musk smell off. This absolutely proves it: NO DARK MUSK FOR TELOPHASE. (Light musks don't seem to be too bad in other things as long as they don't predominate, but the presence of the red, black, and dark musks are an automatic NO WAY IN HELL for me now.)

I eventually managed to get it off after remembering the old food-service trick that I learned from my time in hell food service for getting grease out of your unifrom: wash in dishwashing soap. That got it off my skin when hand soap and alcohol wouldn't. [livejournal.com profile] yhlee, you might try this if you're ever ambushed by myrrh again.

It turned into tobacco plus leather. It wasn't unpleasant--and it's better than myrrh--but I wouldn't wan to wear it generally. :-p Thanks for the thought, though!

I was referring to washing with dish soap to get the myrrh off, not wearing Hellfire. :D

I am clearly not awake. Or not paying attention. *squints at proofreading she's supposed to do*

I tried the dish soap. It doesn't work on myrrh, although it helps with other stuff. *sits down and weeps*

Heh. Ah well, it removes musk from my skin and grill grease from my T-shirts (most of the way), so at least there's that.

And I got my bottle of Hellcat in the mail today and All is Well with the World. Bordello has been shipped and should be getting to me, hopefully, Monday. Whee!

and now to use some of the art money in the paypal account to get more
