This morning: get in car, turn key, lights on dash start, funny noise occurs, car doesn't start. Guess I'm working from home today. Toby's guess is battery or alternator. We'll try to jump it later today and if that works, replace the battery. If that doesn't work, we'll be towing it to the mechanic tomorrow.

Do you garage your car? Could be a critter chewing on the alternator wires (or other wires), even in a garage, though.

It's in a garage. We jumped it during lunch and it started up, so we're prtty sur it's the battery. I also have no memory of ever replacing the battery. The plan is to get a replacement this evening at Walmart. No point in spending too much money on the car as it's scheduled to be replaced in September.
