OH COME ON PEOPLE

Rules of the road I have discerned from the past week or so:

If a traffic light starts flashing red in both directions, treat it either as a green light or as an indication you should stop and not continue until the four cars immediately behind you are all honking madly. By no means should you treat it as a four-way stop.

If the new traffic lights that have just been installed are not yet operational and have burlap sacking (or whatever it is) tied over the light assemblies, treat them cautiously as if they were a Yield sign, and slow down or, for preference, come to an unexpected full stop. By no means should you act as if they didn't exist and continue driving as normal.

If the new traffic lights are set to flashing yellow one way and flashing red the other, treat the entire intersection as if it's a four-way stop.

I have to go back through this intersection in twenty minutes as I run errands. I'm not sure I'm going to be able to stop myself from punching a few drivers. Cannot wait until it starts operating normally.

On the way out to run errands: accident at the intersection. On the way back from running errands: near-accident as someone turning left across traffic assumed the oncoming traffic, which had a flashing yellow, was going to come to a full stop. *sigh*

Yeah, I shouldn't have laughed. It's a very dangerous situation. :-/

But your summaries of the reactions to the various states of the light were priceless!

When I first saw the fire truck as I was approaching, I laughed myself. Only to feel extremely guilty for it after I spotted the first ambulance, and even more so when the second ambulance passed me in oncoming traffic on its way there. I didn't see anyone lying on the ground, just a couple of non-policemen standing around looking stunned as the cops directed traffic around the accident, so I hope that it's nothing more serious than bangs and bruises..
