State of the cats
We took the cats to the vet today for their normal checkup. As Sora was SO TERRIFIED last time, we obtained kitty tranqs (i.e., an extremely low dose of generic Xanax), and as per instructions, tested out first 1/4 of a pill on Friday, then 1/2 a pill on Saturday.
Good: Turns out Sora LOOOOVES Pill Pockets and will happily gobble down pills disguised by one. (Nefer turned her nose up when I offered her a Pill Pocket.)
Not-so-good: We could not actually tell any difference in Sora's behavior, with either 1/4 or 1/2 a pill. Except that when he was coming down off of it, he got INCREDIBLY affectionate towards me, and demanding of affection. The pills are meant to take the edge off, and Sora is all edge.
Well, I say that, and he didn't soil himself at the vet this time, although he was still extremely unhappy, and the vet reported that his heart rate was ever-so-slightly lower than last year, so perhaps it worked a bit. They examined him in his carrier (the plastic top comes off), and draped a towel over him so that he could feel like he was hiding the whole time.
Anyway, the cats are both fairly healthy. Sora's got an inflamed gum above his right canine, so he's going back in in about 3 weeks for a teeth cleaning and to make sure it's not infected. We've got about 3/4 worth of a pill of kitty Xanax left for him, and the doc says that it shouldn't interact with anything they're doing to him. Nefer's got ear ick as usual, which is probably from allergies. We've got stuff to attempt to get into her ears every other day for a week. The vet says it makes their ears feel better so I hooope that she makes the connection, but somehow I don't think so. (It took her a couple of years to realize that food comes from the kitchen.)
