Zzzzzzzzzyrtec

Toby had an allergist appointment his morning. He writes:
So - mutants. [...] I mention [Zyrtec] knocks you out. He says in controlled placebo trials of Zyrtec 4-5% of people on placebo get drowsy. In the test group, it's only about 2% more. So you are in the approximately 2% of people who actually get drowsy from Zyrtec. Congrats.
Woo-hoo!

Anecdote is not data, but there may be differences in the way men and women respond to Zyrtec. Every woman I know who has tried it has found it to be a sluggishness-inducing, sleep-demanding drug that cleared up congestion like nothing else. Men I know who have taken it do not notice an effect. So there's a choice: sleep all the time and breathe really well, or... not so much.

Taking it at night won't help. You'll still sleep 12+ hours, just starting at a more normal time.

I know a lot of women who tried it and either immediately or cumulatively (after about ten days-two weeks) realized they were spending a considerable portion of their lives unconscious. I base my comment on men's resistance to this to the fact that the several men I have suggested it to as a soporific have not had any effect at all from it (and one got a "speeding can't sleep arrrgh" effect).

HA! I *knew* it wasn't just me! The last time I went to the doctor, the nurse mentioned it was unusual to get sleepy from it, but it does it to me *every time*! Happily, I don't have to take it that often, but yes, it causes sleepy-bye and SuperLag for hours and hours!^^

It's relegated to emergency use only for me, especially after this weekend where it took away my volition for two days!

My mom takes Benadryl to calm her allergies to get to sleep, but 50% of the time it puts me to sleep and 50% of the time it wires me and I can't ever tell which time it's going to be, alas.
