My personal record for adware?

326 items

I had to clean this off before I could even get *into* Windows Update without getting casino popups.

326<>??? Is that all?

I had a machine I was working on that had over twice that on the first scan, and on the second scan showed 100+ more. ;)

The second scan is ahowing 277. :D And can't remove them all. Whee! I expect I'll find worse elsewhere.

I got smart and checked out one of the laptops with wireless access so I can at least fool about online while doing all of this.

That sucks. You're gonna have to clean out the registry on that sucker... *wince* It'll take forever.

If I can get it just working enough to update and get the new version of the virus scanner installed, I'll do that - it's due to be replaced completely in a few weeks.

It's just ... GAH.

[identity profile] kurobahikaru.livejournal.com 2005-08-17 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
*gives cheesecake and pizza* I know. Don't they go through and run the scanners once a week or so? Something the newbie librarians can do? I dunno. I just know we take turns at my house, so I don't have any adware. *shrug*

I'm going to recommend they set up something like that. Once we get XP up and everyone's running under the handicapped accounts without install privileges, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

[identity profile] kurobahikaru.livejournal.com 2005-08-17 03:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Of course, then it'll be so easy that anyone who whines about the duty can get fired immediately. XD I don't even get popups anymore with XP; it's so nice... *kirakira*

Very good idea! :D

Ugh...sounds like my father's computer. It never fails to amaze me just how many pieces of spy/adware end up on his machine...

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-08-17 03:59 pm (UTC)(link)
Apparently student workers on occasion get onto this computer at night, which compounds the problem, since there's no telling where they go online. :D

Probably the same porn sites my dad visits ;-)

Agh....I started using Firefox about 2 months ago and Spybot has not found one thing since then. My parental units are still usin IE but I still only find about 6 per 2 weeks on theirs...but then again it could be because the only website they ever really use is eBay. XD

Firefox is love *colorbar*

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2005-08-17 03:57 pm (UTC)(link)
That was me - I lost connection and got out of Firefox, and forgot I needed to log into LJ again. XD

I still get lots off of Spybot and I use Firefox, then again AIM probably gets a lot.

i am sooooooo sorry! what a pain. (stupid people that don't know what virus/worm/adware is) same goes for me.

my favorite call:
Her: "My computer is making buzzing noises."
Me: "What?"
Her: "My computer. It's buzzing at me."
Me: "... I'll be right there."

and yes. her computer was buzzing at her. bbzzzz at random times. it was hilarious! though kinda creepy... o__0
