Toby and I just got back from watching a production of Greater Tuna. If you do not have the pleasure of being acquainted with this play,* it is a two-man show depicting a number of characters in the small town of Tuna, Texas ("Texas' third smallest town, where the Lion's Club is too liberal and Patsy Cline never dies."). And between our various sets of relatives, Toby and I are pretty sure we're related to people exactly like every single character in there. And judging by the laughter and applause, the same could be said for much of the audience.

One down of our fall theatre obligations: next up is to watch Anthony Bourdain and Eric Ripert snark at each other near the beginning of November.

* There's a filmed version of the stage play available through Netflix. Go, thou, and rent!

Tuna love! Some years ago "A Tuna Christmas" came through here, and I made sure to take my best friend to see it. :D I'd seen recordings but it was awesome to experience live!

I've seen 'A Tuna Christmas' and Toby and I went to see 'Red, White, and Tuna' a few years back, but I hadn't seen 'Greater Tuna' in its original form, with two actors playing all the roles. 15 or 20 years back, the local theatre troupe in the city I was living in at the time put on a version that was staged in an interesting manner - they cast all the parts with different actors, and built a set that seemed almost vertical - it was all the different locations onstage at once, the ones in back higher than the ones in front. All the actors stayed onstage the whole time, going through their daily lives, and whatever scene was going on was picked out by a spotlight.

The actors even stayed in character during the intermission and wandered through the theatre - Vera Carp was standing in line with me in the bathroom and was asking everyone how they enjoyed the show. XD

Anyway, it was a nifty way to set it up, but I wanted to see the two-man version with the lightning-quick character/costume changes.
