Warhammer

I gotta give it to the art director(s) of Warhammer 40K and whoever on the top who allows them to do this. I have no desire whatsoever, zero, zip, nada, nil, to read Warhammer 40K. And yet they keep publishing books with covers that COMPEL me to pick them up and take a look.*

Examples:

* And then sigh heavily and put them back down when I realize they're Warhammer, but hey.

The first 3 look kind of standard, but the 2 on the right must really stand out on the shelves \o/

They look like Oxford Classics and Penguin, too, but even more like Heyday Press's local history series' covers.

No! It's Everyman's paperback classics they resemble---they used an art cover with the black box with contrasting text; Penguin did too, but the font's more like Everyman's. I'm not sure Everyman is still using that design, though.

I read some of the reviews and descriptions and they make absolutely no sense to me.

Maybe I'm dead already.

*surfs by* Yeah, lately their covers have been pretty fantastic. I'm fond of the redesigns on the POD line too, even if some of those books are hella heretical (omg Space Marine your cover is so awesome, but, oh the writing.) I'm also always fond of painted ~epic~ covers. <3

Though if you don't like the IP, it's a cruel lure. My friend and I got sucked into WH40K via the book covers, actually -- the Ravenor omnibus, to be specific. And now I'm working my way through their catalogue and painting an army...

I can't seem to see any pictures. Odd. I know what you mean though, I think I was originally sucked in to Warhammer/ Warhammer 40K through their art when I was younger and though I grew out of wanting to play (it wasn't a girl friendly hobby 15 years ago) I still find myself getting drawn to all the colourful boxes and novels and things when I go shopping.

Are you running AdBlock Plus or Ghostery or some such? ABP did them in for me until I told it to whitelist telophase.livejournal.com.

Oh! I totally forgot about Adblock, my trusty friend running in the background. That seems to have solved it. :)

Me too! I get excited and then am sad.
