Job open - please pass this on!

We're re-opening the job search for a digital services librarian here - this time focusing on the technical aspects rather than the library aspects.

https://tcu.iGreentree.com/CSS_External/CSSPage_Referred.ASP?Req=2011-176

Please pass this on to anyone you know - this makes the 3rd or 4th time it's been open, and we would really like it to be filled. It hasn't been filled yet because none of the candidates interviewed have suited, I think because none of them have had the right tech abilities, hence the departmental focus on tech instead of librarianship this time around.

I suspect that I am not any more qualified for this than your previous applicants, though it does make me think that of all of the degrees that I'm considering getting right now to compliment my Library Science degree that the Info Systems one is the way to go.

From my viewpoint, limited by my sitting here in info systems, I'd agree - there seems to be an ever-growing need for experience in this field. Even if someone doesn't end up a workplace with a Systems department, having that knowledge makes them more marketable for workplaces that don't have a specialized department, but who need that sort of functionality.

At the very least, having that sort of knowledge will allow you to have a better chance of telling if the vendors promising to supply this sort of thing are bullshitting you or not.

I agree too. We'll probably be looking for a systems/programming librarian in the future too. We don't need any more English undergrads reference librarians - we need librarians with the technical skills!
