telophase: (Cats - Sora and Nefer)

Kitty update!

So we've been feeding the cats Felidae food for the most part now that Sora's health scare is over. Sora gets part of a can of wet food in the morning and the evening, and we also put out dry for them to nosh on over the day (a scant 1/4 cup per cat twice a day). We'd feed Sora more, but he won't eat it - 1/4 to 1/3 of a can at a time is about his limit.

Naturally, Felidae is a bit of a pain to get since we have to go to a local feed store that's only open until 6PM Monday through Saturday, and closed on Sunday.

We spent the last week trying out two of the other brands that our vet mentioned, only to find that while Nefer doesn't like the Felidae as much as the stuff that made Sora ill, she really doesn't like those other two brands, and was eating barely anything. Toby eventually got some Felidae one day at lunch because we were worried that she wasn't eating enough. The nest day he put out three bowls, one of each of the brands, and the Felidae was almost gone by the end of the day while the other two were only picked at a bit.

Nefer's an odd one. Won't recognize wet food as food, will eat taco chips, doesn't like any meat except a wee bit of tuna occasionally (preferably the water from the can), and pork products which make her puke. Likes milk, but it makes her puke also (even lactose-free stuff). Loves saltine crackers. And when I originally switched her to the food that made Sora sick, I tried to move her onto it gradually the way you're supposed to, by mixing it in with her previous food, but she butted my hands out of the way before I could mix the foods and started right in on the new stuff. XD

Ah well, I guess we're just going to have to buy two bags at a time or something in order to keep from running out at an inopportune time.

I'm in similar situation with the dogs' food. I try to have one open bag (in a plastic bin) and one unopened bag at all times: When the opened bag gets emptied (or close to it), I buy another unopened bag as soon as conveniently possible.
