Hello everyone! I've just gotten my new Copic marker set and I reeeeeeeally wanna try them out. But I've got TEH SEKRIT PROJEKT to work on like mad all weekend. So in between bouts of sitting around thinking really hard about doing TSP, I've done up the following. 'Tis my Carrot onna Stick because I get to work at it in between bouts of TSP if I am a good girl. It needs to be printed out, lightboxed and inked onto the appropriate paper, then colored, so with luck it'll get me through the weekend.

I'm using my Japanese-text marker book with this, doing my best to figure out what it's talking about by following the pictures. Not especially easy. What I really wanna know is: what paper?!



And why can I not stop drawing Gojyo?





The identity of the hand's owner is left as an exercise for the reader.

Well, Sanzo's really more my speed, but I think since I like him better, I'll be more irritated if I screw up drawing him. Or something.

Thank you! I think this is the closest I've got so far to getting Minekura's style. And for once, although I'm still not happy with it, I can actually see where I'm improving on drawing hair.

'Tis a seeeeekrit. Cannot discuss it yet because nothing's settled yet - it's still in the early stages and may possibly not happen. Not discussing it is more of a superstition than anything else (and probably sticking around ehre and reading between the lines on various things will end up giving you an idea of what it is, but hey. :D)

I have quite enjoyed dropping annoying coy hints everywhere, though.

I like the eyes and the face (and I am usually not a big Gojyo fan, looks-wise.)

You don't normally see fold lines int eh skin like that - Minekura tends to draw them in. Mine look weirder than hers, I think, because my lines are thicker than they ought to be in the pencils there - hers, as well as the lines of the tendons on the back of the hands, are done in the thinnest of lines.

Minekura's hands are weird and blocky anyway - and she can't keep the scale consistent; sometimes they'll be the right size and sometimes they'll be these little dinky things.

Huh. My anatomy is lousy so I hadn't noticed before, but I'll keep a look out for that later.

Her line is so expressive she can usually convince you of anything, including that skeletal men who look like toastracks on heroin* are really hot. But if you pay attention to the hands, they're all over the place, and she tends to have problems with extreme perspective - in almost any picture where Sanzo's holding his gun at arm's length and pointing it at you, the hand is really smaller than it ought to be. But we're not supposed to focus on the hand - we're supposed to focus on the face, and she draws attention to the face, so the mis-sized hand flies under the radar - I'd think it was deliberate except for her getting the size wrong in so many other contexts.

On oe of the pages you scanned in for your book 5 essay - 5.27.105 (http://www.steelypips.org/miscellany/saiyuki/5-27-105.jpg) - look at Gojyo's writs and arm in panel 3. She's got the folds and lines of his muscles, skin, and bone structure so delinated that it looks like he's wearing a baggy sleeve/glove combo. :)

I did figure out one spot on his hand that I messed up on - his first and second knuckles of his forefinger are in front of the second finger's, and need to be pushed back.

Hah, it really does, and I so did not notice.

I had also not noticed that Sanzo has a big ass, but thanks to that outfit, I was mostly focused on the shoulders. =>
