telophase | Wallpaper, anyone?

Since I've just been upgraded to XP at work, I'm looking for The Perfect Wallpaper(TM) to go on my monitor. I'm picky, and have also just spent an irritated few minutes reporting the hell out of someone who's uploaded a wallpaper of mine to a wallpaper gallery after cutting off the signature*, and must get back to inking, so I can't really spare much time. So I figure I'd post my requirements here and see if anyone knew of anything that matched 'em ~~or was inspired~~, and get back to work. Who knows? Stranger things have happened.

OK - I'm looking for wallpapers that are:

* WORKSAFE - much as I'd like a ~~nekkid~~ shirtless Sanzo on my desktop, I think that'd Not Be Good.
* not white or a light color - that drives me crazy.
* not busy - if there's an allover pattern, faded *way* down is what I'm looking for. I can't stand losing my icons and the text beneath them in a mess of detail.
* soft colors. Bright ones annoy me. Dark colors are fine, too. Something that's got an allover tint would be excellent.
* I tend not to go for overly emo song lyrics on things. My icons are fairly representative of my tastes and my sense of humor. :)
* 1280x1024. If it's smaller than that, if I put a solid-color border around it, it shouldn't look weird.

* Series:
--Saiyuki (especially Sanzo)
--Death Note (especially L or Mello)
--Hikaru no Go (Hikaru, Sai)
--Blade of the Immortal

I'm not especially picky - if you know of something you think I might like, even if it's not one of the above series, point me to it. :)

Examples: this is my current wallpaper at home - the orangey sunset bits are actually slightly brighter than I'd like, but it's all so dark otherwise that I don't care.

This is what I had up for the longest time. Short, sweet, to the point. Dark and not busy at all, at all.

This I've downloaded but haven't used because I wanted the other Saiyuki wallpapaer more. It's barely on the edge of too busy, but it's saved because it'a all tinted a soft blue. And I kinda like the darkened corners which make it fade out like a TV screen. XD I'd use this one, but it's not in 1280 x 1024 and because of those corners I can't add a border around it without it looking stupid.

*Here, if you're curious. The top left one with the red background. Note how they deftly cut the signature - and half of his feet - out of the image. We'll see how fast the mods take it down after I report it...

This doesn't have any wallpaper from the series you listed, but I gotta plug it since I've always loved her work: http://www.clearlypixelated.com/da/index.php Then again, I'm biased for anyone who'd do wallpapers for Kino no Tabi. And good ones at that.

Another site is http://media.lost-soleil.com/index.php, which has a lot of wallpaper inspired by Minekura (and other's) work. However, this person's wallpapers tend to be on the more textured and gritty side of things.

I borrowed your Death Note one :p I definitely need to read that manga, but I try to bittorrent it from the site you once provided, and it failed all the time...maybe because I was downloading it from Nr 1.

Darn...I was going to give you a wallpaper I used for a loooong time with a good fanart work with Monster as theme. I can't believe I deleted the picture.

XD The Death Note one is pretty cool - it was posted to the Death Note community, I think, and I snagged it there.

Urgh, I hate rip-offs. That's a good wall paper, do you have the link to it with your signature?

The one I'm using now is a tiled background I ganked from My!Yahoo. It's light blue and has little funky circles, here (http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y34/efuega/bubble.gif) is the source. Just tile it. It looks really good with a silver taskbar.

I know it's probably not what you're looking for: has a tendency to make you dizzy. But... meh.

lyricaldesktops has quite a few artists, and has been running fairly heavy with the Saiyuki stuff. It's worth a look, at least.

Thanks! Yeah, I can adapt stuff, and I ahve a hankering to try out the new software on the Macs in the computer lab at work that is supposed to be able to upsize images fairly well. :)
