Non-American peoples!

So here in Amurrica, when a phone number appears on a TV show or movie, it starts with 555, which doesn't go to any actual phone number, just an info line if anything. In your country, is there an equivalent?

It's the 49 in Germany. Becomes useful in international calls, I think.

Wikipedia has an article called "Fictitious telephone number" which discusses this, but only provides examples for Australia and the UK.

In Germany there's O800 - and then you have to have the other numbers that actually reach the person making the offer. However 0800 is only the dial code at the start IF the call is completely free to make.

I believe there are various others that are supposed to tell the caller how expensive a minute of the call would be (important for phone sex and such).

On second read through, I completely misread the question. I don't think there's one famous non-existent literary fiction number over here...

No, you didn't. :) We don't have a specific fake number (although 555-1212 is often used), it's just that all fake numbers start with 555, like 555-5689 or 555-0824.
