I agree. This rant is pretty much exactly why I have an issue with the comic industry right now and haven't bought a comic in years.
Funnily enough I was always a massive X-men fan when I was younger. I went off them in my late teens pretty much at the same time that the stories became less about beating up mutant-seeking robots of mass destruction until they exploded and more about how awful it was for them all to have superpowers and have to fight for the powers of goodness and equality (also I was pretty sick of Wolverine being in everything). All I want is more exploding robots and less hair-flicking and butt shots, is that too much to ask? :-/
Wyrdness, don't rule out all comics just because Marvel and DC are being kinda awful now. It sounds like you'd LOVE Atomic Robo (no butt shots! Attack pyramids! Atomic Robot detectives! Cthulu! AND NO BUTT SHOTS.)
Posts like yours are what make me so very irate over nonsense like the NuDCU. I'll never know how many readers are driven away from the medium as a whole by these semiporn supers stories, but I'm guessing it's in the "plenty-lots" category. Thank Turing for the Internets and webcomics, at least.
You know, Atomic Robo really does sound interesting! I'll pick up volume 1 and see how I go. :)
It's so easy to forget Marvel and DC aren't the be all and end all of comics sometimes, I think I have been unwittingly conditioned by all those rubbish games and films based off their property! It's only when good people like yourself directly point out the smaller guys that I remember there's an alternative. So thank you very much! :)
Well, I've felt that way since they decided to undo 20 years of character development for Clark Kent (published author of spy fiction, two-time Pulitzer Prize winner for Journalism, former QB for Smallville High, etc.) and turn him back into some bland milquetoast schmuck, just because Didio has a mancrush on Richard Donner. This is just more evidence in support of expressing criticism through gratuitous violence.

For some reason I just knew this DC reboot was going to be an absolute train wreck.
Methinks some comic-book writers have been typing one-handed...
