Summer, also known as the Time of Shoes that Make Amusing Noises. Because of the arthritis in my feet, and just general weird foot-ness, I have only a narrow range of sandals I can wear without pain and without blisters.*

The current ones are MBTs, a rocker-bottom brand that put itself out of business a while back by (a) claiming health benefits and getting whacked by the government and (b) keeping their prices high while Skechers and other shoes copied their soles. (They got bought and resurrected at some point in the recent past, but I haven't found that the new styles of sneakers work on my feet.)

So I'm wearing MBT sandals right now and man they are prone to trapping air between my foot and the sole, which then escapes, usually as I am walking through the quiet area of the library, with an unmistakable noise.

I still wear them. I'd rather deal with that then the heat in the Texas summer. I just wish they'd chosen a different material for the sole.

* "Break it in!" people say. "You'll stop getting blisters!" That has never ever ever been true of my feet. Or maybe I just haven't put up with open, oozing bloody sores on my feet long enough. (That was sarcasm. No way am I putting up with that.)
