quick sketch

Had to spend a little bit of time working up a quick digital sektch of Mello from Death Note based on one of those photos I took with my phone last November, because the idea was hammering at my head and wouldn't leave. I can't get back to it for a while, but that's OK because I have no idea what's in the *rest* of the picture. Ideas encouraged, although if I'm true to form I'll reject all of them out of hand - but they're still quite useful because knowing what I don't want in a picture helps me figure out what I do want in there.

For some reason, I see ducks.

"If he turned around they'd hide themselves - they were good at that sort of thing: nobody else ever saw them. But he didn't need to turn around. Of course the ducks were there. The ducks were always there."

The March of the Sinister Ducks

There's an mp3 of it on-line, but I do have to warn you that it tends to get stuck in your head: http://www.harpercollins.com/hc/images/om/JB/SinisterDucks-MarchoftheSinisterDucks.mp3

My brain. Probably informed by something I read once and am misremembering - the "The [blank] were always there" seems familair to me, but I don't know why. :)

It reminded me vaguely of Good Omens, which did have ducks, although not necessarily these.

I've been listening to Pratchett audiobooks while inking today. That may ahve had something to do with it. Tempered by a good dose of the sort of insanity [livejournal.com profile] ursulav provides.

I was behind in Death Note, and I just caught up, and my brain is still trying to grap all the Mello/Near stuff, haha. I really do love that as a Mello pose, though.

Thanks. :D What my brain is insisting on telling me is that he's standing on a rooftop looking over a city. The unfortunate part is NO WAY IN HELL AM I DRAWING MORE BUILDINGS.

*ahem*

Well, after all that gorgeous building work for your comic, I can see that. Personally - though this just me, of course - that pose seemed really great for just standing around in a street/hall with other people like in the original drawing. It would be really great to see it like that if Mello is obviously the main person in the perspective, sort of as though everyone else is insignificant in comparison...that image is very Mello-ish to me.

Hmm, interesting possibility there.
