The drawback to being in an office down in the basement of the library is that I'm near the loading dock door. The alarmed loading dock door. And on a regular basis, poeple try to get out via that door despite the large sign that says "ALARM WILL GO OFF" in large, friendly letters. And when the alarm does go off, it's the most screechy, high-pitched, loud, annoying thing EVAR.

My supervisor's key has the ability to shut the alarm off. He's at lunch.

I had to call upstairs and get them to send someone down to shut it off, and the person they sent didn't have the correct key, and had to go back upstairs and find the right key and come back down again and OH GOD SHUT THAT THING OFF RIGHT NOW!!!

They eventually suceeded, which proves the dictum that SILENCE is GOLDEN.
