I've downloaded the audiobook of Palladian Days by Sally Gable and Carl Gable, which is the story of how the Gables purchased and renovated the Villa Cornaro outside of Venice, one of the most influential buildings in architectural history. It was designed by Andrea Palladio, a Big Name in architectural history (the Capitol building in Washington DC is in the Palladian style).

Anyway, I'm enjoying it quite a lot - about 25% of the way in, and it's clear that the Gables are in love with the villa, the area, and their history. I'm not up for writing an actual review right now - I'm flipping over to LJ for a moment to give my eyeballs a rest from working on a perspective drawing for TEH SEKRIT PROJEKT and this is about the only thing I have to say.

It's mostly made me want to go visit the Villa Cornaro if I ever end up in Venice during the six months a year that it's open to the public. And it's also kinda nifty to be able to go online and look at a few photographs and a floorplan of the main floor as the author is talking about entering the house for the first time and describing it. XD

ETA: Just found the website on Italian historical stuffage hosted by what seems to be the corporation that Carl Gable runs (or is - it might be just him and I'm not going to bother to look it up XD), which includes a subsite on the book and the Villa Cornaro, with a few more photos.
