Thoughts...

...on watching the royal wedding via DVR.

1) The Archbishop of Canterbury has some pretty awesome eyebrows.

2) When the various princes arrived at Westminster, they took off their hats and gloves and handed them to a guy. How does that guy keep then straight? Does he have labeled boxes back there?

3) YES FINALLY A WEDDING DRESS OF THE 21st CENTURY WITH SLEEVES!! I hate that modern strapless trend.

Kate Middleton for the Win got me through yesterday.

Ditto on the strapless dresses - although Kate Middleton might actually look good in one, as opposed to the vast majority of brides. Loved her dress with the lacy sleeves - so elegant.

And how about all those (ladies) hats!

Yes, the hats! Fantastic! The Brits can do outrageous and fabulous hats so well.

One of my rule about my wedding dress was that it had to have something substantial over the shoulders. Not strapless, not wee baby spaghetti straps.

Because I had enough to worry about that day without the fear of stepping on the hem and popping clean out of the bodice.

And you have many more neckline options with sleeved gowns!

Actually I thought her dress was somewhat Grace Kelly inspired and so was her hairdo (although that probably was 60s inspired). She looked luminous and I sure hope she knows what she's getting into. I loved the tiara she picked for her hair and the small ear rings.

+1 for not promising to obey
-1 for William not wearing a wedding ring, too.

And I loved her little 'mmm tasty' dip directly after the second kiss on the balcony.

+1 for having a heck of a bridesmaid's dress for her sister Philippa

Where was the brother, though? I haven't followed this at all, so is something the matter with the Middleton brother? Or was he the guy who entered the church at the side of her mother? Hmm.

Her brother gave the reading during the ceremony. I think he arrived with her mother.

The dress was very definitely a riff on Grace Kelly.

I am told it's in bad taste to enter the Abbey with your arms exposed. Apparently Pippa got blasted for her short sleeves when she entered but the dress was amazing on both women.

Oh yes, so this! And anyway, Pippa was holding the train of the bride, so what were they moaning about :P

I love that the lace was embroidered with roses, thistles, daffodils and shamrocks to represent all of the GB nations. Very nice detail.

Wasn't the gown embroidered around the edges, too? Or was that Jaquard weaving, or was I hallucinating? I thought it had tone-in-tone embroidery...

Covered in lace appliqué, I think. (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13249018)

Ohh, thanks for that link, that was interesting. Glad to know my eyes didn't betray me.

2) I'm guessing the hats and gloves all have elaborately embroidered coats-of-arms and/or monograms hidden inside? Or else that guy is Bunter.

3) Yay sleeves! (Tav and I both wore long sleeves at our wedding. And pants. No dresses, though.)

I was watching the TLC coverage of the ceremony (and fast-forwarding through the majority of the commentary, which was about as vapid as you'd expect), and when Randy, the guy who's one of the host of Say Yes to the Dress talked about the dress, he aid he hoped it made for a new trend in wedding gowns, as he constantly had brides come to him in the salon asking for sleeves!
