telophase: (Librarian - trust me)

L@L looking for bloggers and/or guest posts!

One of our bloggers had Real Life happen and has had to withdraw from Librarian @ Large, so we're on the lookout for a regular blogger on alternate Mondays. The basic idea behind L@L is teaching how to do library research: we explain concepts and methods. We also answer reference questions, explaining how we found the answer, so that our readers can do the same thing themselves. And as libraries are multifaceted, so are we: sometimes the research question is "what can I read next?" :)

Any regular blogger should be a librarian of some ilk (academic, public, special, corporate, school, whatever!), BUT if you have a particular search/research expertise and are not a librarian, we'd be interested in a guest post!

Our readership is still small, but it takes time to grow a blog. :)

Pass the message on! And let us know if you're interested or just want to ask more questions - comment here or email me at telophase14 (at) gmail or on the site via our contact form. Thanks!

Just had a thought... what about posting this to [livejournal.com profile] libraries and see if we get any bites?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2011-04-11 03:42 pm (UTC)(link)
That might work. Would you be willing to post it (so I don't look like a drive-by poster) if I worked up a better write-up that explained things like anonymity for institutions, etc.?

I'm pretty much a lurker there, but yeah, I'll do it. It's not the most active comm, but I figure [livejournal.com profile] library_mofo is not as likely to get the kind of response we want. XD

Thanks! :D How's this sound? Feel free to edit if, say, you're not into posting! exclamation! marks! which I seem to be prone to when discussing L@L.

Librarian @ Large looking for bloggers and/or guest posts!

Librarian @ Large (http://www.librarianatlarge.net/) is a group blog focused primarily on teaching others how to do library research. We explain concepts and methods, and we also answer reference questions, explaining how we found the answer, so our readers can do the same thing for themselves. And as libraries are multifaceted, so are we: sometimes the research question is "what can I read next?"

Our readership is still small, but it takes time to grow a blog. :)

Currently we have a new post on M-W-F, with each blogger taking a turn every other week and one doing a monthly column. We've lost one of our Monday regulars and would also like to fill in the Tuesdays and Thursdays that have been going empty right now, and have some guest posts.

We'd prefer regular bloggers be librarians of some sort (academic, public, special, corporate, school, archivist, anything actually!), but if you're a current library student or not a librarian but have a particular search/research expertise, we'd be interested in a guest post, if you've got a subject to propose. For example, we're talking with an entomologist right now about a post on scientific research for a university-level paper. The subjects are wide, and each blogger tends to pick reference questions or post topics of interest to themselves, or something they've dealt with previously.

We'll ask each blogger who is interested to contribute a couple of guest posts to see if it will work out and to see if the schedule is going to work. The site is run on Wordpress, but you don't need to be familiar with it. Compensation is, alas, merely resumé fodder and warm fuzzies.

Please let us know if you're interested or just want to ask more questions - comment here or email [livejournal.com profile] telophase at telophase14 (at) gmail (dot) com or on the site via our contact form (http://www.librarianatlarge.net/contact-us/).

(If you're not interested in posting, we'd also love it if you read the blog and commented with your expertise!)

Thank you!

I figure once it's posted I'll post with a comment about the Amazon affiliate link: if we get more than it takes for hosting/bandwidth fees, say, over $5/month, then we'll discuss either equitably splitting it or donating it to an educational cause, but as we've received a whole $ .12 since we started the blog, I don't think we're in any danger of that happening in the near future!

Awesome, thanks!

I'm not a librarian, but I'd be happy to do a guest post on doing scientific research for a university-level paper or report using a database like Web of Knowledge, and even incorporating that into End Note.

That would be FANTASTIC! :D How long do you think that would take, so I could schedule you in at a good time for you?

(This reminds me - I need to mess about with the WP roles so I can have guest posters listed in a separate section from the columnists on the Authors page...)

Honestly, it will only probably take me a couple of hours once I have a topic. But I'd need about a week's worth of head's up, so I wasn't trying to juggle it in a week like the last one.

I have poked Tav again that he should totally volunteer a guest post about something like extracting useful info from interviewing Subject Matter Experts.

Awesome! :D
