And just saw Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Enjoyed the hell out of it, although am eyeing the extra backstory a bit askance...

I saw it yesterday, and loved it. The backstory was kind of odd, but then, so was the whole darn movie. Very bizarre, very funny. I liked it a lot.

The way I put it is about 70% of the backstory worked. 30% dragged or was odd. But, hey Christopher Lee.

Christopher Lee is never a bad thing.

The backstory didn't work for me because Wonka is supposed to be a cipher. Ah well. If there hadn't been a book at all, the movie just spraing out of nowhere, I wouldn't have such an objection to it.

Of course the real question is: are we ever going to get to see Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator on the silver screen?

I think they wanted some more to it, as I understand it. I felt it worked (much to my surprise), but they overdid it/dragged it out a bit. I could have gone with it either way.

I hope we see the sequel, it may well depend on how well this film does.
