A missed opportunity

Shazam is an iPhone app that can listen to music and identify it.

If you have Shazam listen to dead silence, it does not identify it as John Cage's 4'33".

Probably because it can't distinguish it from "A One Minute Silence" by Mike Batt.

SoundHound claims to be able to listen to music or to you hum a tune and identify it. But I don't think it works so well for classical-type music. There is a piece that I have wondered literally for decades who the composer is. I was all excited when I heard about this app, but it didn't work.
