Help!

I need a name for my monthly column at the Hooded Utilitarian! As I have no real theme for it, that's not much help. I'm starting a re-read of Elfquest for the next few months, a la the Tor rereads/-watches of Lord of the Rings, Trek, and the like, if that helps.

(Just issue #1 for tomorrow's column, but I'll be doing 3 or so issues at a time for the next ones. All issues of EQ are online at elfquest.com, if you want to read along and join in!)

ETA: I wasn't quite clear above - the column will be doing more than just Elfquest, once the reread's over. For example, my first one was a love song to Sandra Pullman, the main character of New Tricks :D

ETA2: Right now I'm going with the boringish "Browsing the Stacks." I may change that later if I figure out something better.

No suggestions, but I'm really looking forward to the EQ reread.

Fantasy Reboot?
Reboot of the Elves?
Elfquest, Take Two?

The problem with those - which I didn't make clear, sorry - is that Elfquest is not the only thing I'm doing. My first one was a love song to the main character of New Tricks, for example. :D

Is it rereads across all sorts of media, then? Or more generally "things I check out"?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2010-11-28 08:59 pm (UTC)(link)
It's whatever I want to write about at the time, actually. :) Maybe rereads, maybe reviews, any sort of media (though I'll probably try to make sure it's at least somewhat applicable to comics, as it is a comics blog). I jumped on the Elfquest thing after a conversation in the comments on a previous post a couple of months ago, partly because it gives me material for the next few months.

I love the title of Vom Marlowe's column which is, I believe, "Face Down in the Mainstream." She's got much the same things as me - writing whatever we feel like.

I'm unsure if I want to reference libraries. I could do something with "stacks", in that case...

Oh, Elfquest! I was in love with that series when I was 12 or so. I'd love to do a reread; I'm looking forward to your column.

But I'm terrible at coming up with titles, so I'm no help there, unfortunately.

Yay! I'm hoping for some good discussion. :D

Yay Elfquest!

(Er, that was commentary, not a suggestion. :D )

How much of the series are you planning on rereading/recapping?

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2010-11-29 01:19 am (UTC)(link)
Definitely issues 1-20. If I get on a roll, and people seem to be enjoying it, I'll continue, but I may end up drifting off to other things after that.

I'm not so sure about "Browsing the Stacks". It's not bad, and the stacks reference is good, but I'm not sure that "browsing" is quite the right verb. It's too passive. It doesn't evoke the sort of passion and depth that I expect we'll see in your articles. You don't browse stacks, you devour them, you conquer them, you ... you ... I can't find a better word, either. Grrr.

I'll keep thinking.

And fie on you for mentioning Elfquest. Much like loosing The Game, any mention of Elfquest once I have forgotten about Elfquest means I have to go reread all of Elfquest yet again. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you, but I've already got over 300 books on my list and now they'll be put off that much longer. *sigh*

[identity profile] telophase.livejournal.com 2010-11-29 06:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you can try to limit your rereading to the ones I do for the column each month. XD

[identity profile] tprjones.livejournal.com 2010-11-29 06:41 pm (UTC)(link)
No, no, once I start I can't stop. Like Cartman on Southpark singing Sweet Emotion, I must power through without pause once I have begun. It is a compulsion.

Exploring the Stacks? Perusing the Stacks? Maybe still too passive.

Skimming the Stacks? Scanning the Stacks? Those have some nice alliteration.

Unearthed from the Stacks? That's more the flavor of it, I think, but still clunky.

Yeah, since posting that I've become a bit enamored of that name. If telophase doesn't like it, I'll have to go find another librarian that does and make them use it. :P
