Part 6.3 - Aging Characters Quick Followup

[livejournal.com profile] matildarose was kind enough to scan some images out of her copy of Drawing the Human Head by Burne Hogarth, showing the (male, white, as per usual) human head at various ages.

It's a bit too late in the day for me to give coherent commentary, which is merely going to repeat once again everything I've been repeating in the previous three essays. Just look at the proportions, where the features are located, and key elements like the neck, jawline, and forehead.

Off-topic, but there's a particular grim but amusing review on the amazon page for this book (it's right at the end). Apparently, this book spelled unspeakable doom for one reviewer, and yet, he lives to tell his tale of woe for others to hear.

I don't know about that. Look where he's writing from:

With noise on the line, so that it always drops the connection right when you've got 98% of the file downloaded.

Ninety-NINE percent. I was there on holiday once. Nice place to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there.

Hogarth's books are not very good. His drawings are often distorted, with incorrect anatomy. I'd recommend Bridgman and Loomis.
Here is a collection of very good books:
