HGTV Design Star

Watching Design Star and as always I wonder: didn't these people watch it before and realize that nobody who talks serious smack about others gets picked to win? I don't think HGTV wants a host who behaves like a jerk onscreen.

One of the requirements when you're working with a group (on or off-screen) is "must play well with others" and frankly, Certain People on that show don't. That means a lot of drama that needs to get sorted out, miscommunications and blowups that delay work, and general unpleasant viewing and missed deadlines. And since HGTV's specialty in home design is the quick flip, anything that causes delays is to be avoided like the plague.

I was also wondering if it was just selective editing that last week emphasized the sheer bitchiness on the women's team and the smooth sailing on the men's team, and this week's slightly smoother waters on the women's team now that a man is on it.

It could be - or it could be that having a man around (and one who explicitly stated he was going to be doing his best to keep everyone off each others' throats at that) kept them from getting estrogen poisoning.

It may also be that the reason that the men's team won on teamwork last week and this week the women's team won on the same criteria is that Dan is really good at getting everyone moving in the same direction without being flashy about it.

Hopefully it's down to Dan's leadership skills - I'll be watching to see if he seems to have the same effect in other team challenges. (I'm a bit hypersensitive to groups of women who end up at each other's throats because I keep running across people who say that every group of women does that, when it's not my experience at all.)

If it's consistent that Dan is the key to things getting done well, I'd say he's going to wind up in the top 3 at least, and possibly with his own show.

Sounds good to me. So far he hasn't annoyed me, unlike most of the other contestants. :)

The others haven't figured out how to stand out from the crowd without being either whiny or bitchy. :P

Even my six-year-old knows that. Of course, I had to tell him also that they leave some of the more boisterous ones on til the end, regardless, just to make it more snark-filled fun.

I kinda want to ask some of them, "So, how does it feel knowing you were picked just to provide drama and really had no chance whatsoever of winning?"
