SOR-a!!
So I'm working at my desk at home today. Nefer is on the table next to me, which butts up against a window which, because it is an old and wonky house, has the window screen on the inside (you open the windows by turning a crank, and the glass part outside then levers itself open).
Here's the basic setup:

Window, clear table space where the cat is sitting, cat furniture in corner nearby.
Nefer decides to try to climb through the blinds to get a better view of outside. And, as is the wont of cats contacting a mesh screen, gets her claws stuck in it. After some struggle, she manages to disentangle the claw on her right forefoot, which leaves the left foot still stuck.
If you are not familiar with cats, you probably don't know that one of the peculiar blindnesses of their species is, in general, not understanding the concept that when your claw is stuck in something, instead of putting all your claws out and pulling down, hard, you need to relax your claws and lift up. Which, I suppose, is because your basic prehistoric cat didn't have to deal with window screens and shag carpeting. The sorts of things that your claws get stuck in in the wild, like mice, tend to respond to pulling down.
Anyway, I'm sitting there watching, torn between going to help and leaving her alone, as the more traumatic it is, the less likely she'll do it again in the future. Until the point where she starts crying, a low "MMmmmmmmMRRRmmrrrrmrmrooooOWWWmmmmmmWWwRrrrOOOww" sort of thing, at which point I figure it's probably hurting her to pull on it. So I go to help.
This is harder than it seems to be, especially because I can't lift her - she HATES HATES HATES being picked up and will make the struggle with the screen even more titanic if I try to pick her up. I'm left with trying to gently lift her stuck foot up to unhook her claw. Of course she's resisting me and pulling down even harder, all the while with that unnerving low crying going.
Sora, frankly, thinks this is the best entertainment he's had all day. He comes into the room early on, and wanders around, staring at the action. Eventually he makes it over to the top of the cat furniture in the corner, on the other side of Nefer from me.
And then he reaches out with a paw ... and slaps the ever-loving shit out of Nefer, right smack on her head, all claws extended. Nefer, not expecting this, turns on him, hissing and yowling, and this action pulls her claw free of the window screen. She slaps back at him, and they both jump off the table and scram, fishtailing on the hardwood floors as they leave the room.
Sora can be such a little shit sometimes.

At least she's strong enough to hold her own and frequently kicks Sora's ass. Most of their confrontations are started by him either attacking her or lying down on top of her.

Cantilevered windows are also in modern houses. They're just more expensive than sash windows, so less commonly used.
